Borderlands
Borderlands is my first overtly political piece (though one could argue Ariel was). It was born when I was in a period of homelessness and frustrated by the politicization of people's needs basic needs at the Southern border of the US in 2023.
I was sharing a struggle with thousands of others who'd fled where they were seeking both shelter and home. My heart knows the fear, the desperation and the call to a place where it's said that freedom and opportunity live; the urge toward home.
The spiritual messages that flow throughout this piece speak of our separations from each other; the fear of 'Other' and the contrast between professed open hearts and hardened fencelines. The nature of ground and our collective 'grounded nature' here hold our shared journeys toward heart and hearth.
Borderlands is 30 x 40". Mixed media on canvas. $3500. This is available to non-profit immigration programs for $1000.
